Certificate in Conflict Analysis & Resolution
The Certificate Program in Conflict Analysis & Resolution (PCAR) offers students innovative ways to learn about conflict zones around the world. The program involves experiential learning combined with academic training on and off campus that leads to a Certificate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. The certificate program consists of three modules—(1) Theory and Methods of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (2) Culture, History and Politics of Conflict Zones, and (3) Application of Theory and Methods. Students must complete 8 units in each of the three modules.

Provides leadership and guidance to the Olive Tree Initiative (OTI) and the related academic program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in its mission to foster and enhance education and dialogue about conflicts (e.g. the Israeli-Palestinian conflict). Oversees students in planning and carrying out activities; supervises daily operations; mentors students; manages resources; coordinates with campus and system-wide groups and offices; handles and sustains community relations; engages in media relations; provides fundraising support; engages in long-term planning; provides expertise on travel and field studies.

Oversees curriculum development, works with and counsels students, gives final approval to students for completing the certificate program, collaborates with the administration, the program’s director, UCI faculty, and with board members of the Center for Citizen Peacebuilding. Updates website and other publicity about the academic components of the program.

* Participation in the trip is contingent on active involvement in the Olive Tree Initiative student group. Part of the course is also a one-week intensive “Current Political Situation” seminar two weeks before the trip.
** If students cannot participate in the travel experience they may substitute this core element with a comparable experience (e.g. work study), which must be approved by the program’s director and academic director and be supervised by PCAR affiliated faculty .
